hey there my name is Ron, i live in california( sucks) and i love guns. i am going to new mexico in september for my first long range class and to hopefully get familiar with a barrett before i buy one. i am only 17 but my birthday is in august, i dont really have experience with long range shooting( however alot with shotgunning) so i wanted to improve my marksmanship. i am very interested in the model 99, seeing as how the .416 is the only high caliber weapon i can legally have in my hippie state, if anyone has advice i would greatly appreciate it

Hey Ron, I feel your pain, I live in Cali too, but I did manage to get a few .50's before Benedict Arnold signed our rights away. It looks like your jumping in with both feet going from scatter guns to big boy toys. That's awsome that you're taking long range course, hopefully I'll get to one soon.

Have you ever thought about starting out with a smaller caliber like .223 or .308? Also, I'm sure you've read on this board that a few members are having issue's with their .416's

I'm not sure how close you are to getting one, but it's obviously better to wait till they figure out what the problem is. Also, you might want to consider a .338 or.408 for long range shooting which of course is allowed in our gun loving state  , either way welcome to the forum :cheer: (by the way, the smiley's have rootbeer in those mugs until your 21)

to; pre emptive strike, yes i really am taking a big jump, the only other rifle i have besides my shotguns is a .30 06. and you are very luck to have gotten yours when u did, if only i was older. just wanted to know were u go shooting in cali and where you purchase your ammo. the problems with the .416 dont worry me that much, im sure barrett will fix the problem, which is more than i can say for govenator! thans for the response!!!

Welcome aboard.
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

People think I'm paranoid because I own guns.
If I own guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant"
is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist ".
