98b barrel life

Postby I. M. Nobody on Mon 02 Nov, 2009 12:38 am

I just received my 98b friday. I set it up with a Leupolld 6.5x20x50 m4 and a bors unit. What I wan't
to know is what kind of bbl life can I expect to get. How much will it cost to rebbl. The Trigger pull is awsom
compared to my 416.

Now I have to work up a load and program the Bors unit.

I would also like to know what barrel Barrett is using in the 98B. I here most of the comp shooters start rebarreling at about 1500/2000 on the 3500FPS rifles and 2500/3000 on the big slower calibers.

:?: What I'd like to know is how "bbl" became an abbreviation for "barrel". There's only one "b" in "barrel" ... I know it's a widely accepted abbreviation; I just think it's rediculous.

My 2 Cents

The 98B has a 1 10 twist it likes 300 Gr Lapua Senar they are not that fast I get speeds averaging 2735fps.

This should give me as T Buck said 2500 rounds with descent care.

I was just shooting my Tactical 2 on Sunday put 25 rounds out at 550 and 1000 yards. I was lazy so I was just shooting at Fire Extinguishers and Metal Swingers. Looks funny seeing the Swinger at 550 yards going over almost 3 revolutions.

There is one thing I am not crazy about on the 338. It doesn't have the Mass of the 50bmg so staying on Target and seeing the report is much harder and after all that's half the reward.

FLYJETS: Is it as good as I here it is. Also if you had to do it again would it be a Blazzer.

TBuck

Accuracy of the Blaser Tactical 2 at 100 yards average is .449 MOA. Back in Aug I shot a .361MOA group. Trigger is set at 2.2 lbs lightest mine is capable of adjusting.

Weight 15.3 lbs scope with all accessories. The bolt is fast to cycle with it's straight pull back design.

Would I do it again?

That's a tough question T because I could build a more accurate rifle but it's resale value wouldn't hold up like the Blaser.

The only thing I would question was the action / bolt setup. Is it a rotating bolt head. Thanks.
