I outfitted my 98 with the Nightforce 5.5-22 mainly because I heard some rumblings about the leupolds not holding up as well. Not from recoil but from running them up and down alot, they were not returning to zero accurately after going full range many times. The NF has the Titanium spring ( not sure about the Leupolds) and I was told that makes a big difference. I own an old VX-II Leup on a .300 Weatherby Mag. and have had no problems so maybe that was just a rumor with the mk-4's I will say that I agree the optics appeared better in the Leup when I looked at the Leup/ NF side by side but I went with the NF since I've heard they hold up the best. I agree with Boomer. I had 2 VX111s and they got to go to Oregon for a rebuild three times before I sold them. The optics were great but the adjustments wouldn't work consistantly. I just couldn't trust them. I do have one of the original Ultra 16Xs, with the glued in lenses, that were made especially for the .50 BMG. I've used it for 20 years on my LR gun and on my Barrett 99. It works great. I understand that the Mark-Tactical scopes are a lot better at holding their adjustments compared to the VX models.

Hello,

I just picked up my 98B tonight. I am looking for a scope for this and have been reading this post. I am looking at the Nightforce 5.5-22x NXS 56mm. It seems a bit pricy for me now as I just bought the 98B as well as 3 others. I guess I will just have to fork out the money. I am just wondering where did you guys find the best deal for the scope and if you don't mind me asking what did you pay. I found it for 1600.00. Any better deals out there?
Thanks

You won't be disappointed with the NF. It's worth the money.

I'd suspect, at $1600, you've found about the cheapest price out there. I looked myself recently to buy (yet another) one; and the best I could find was around $1700 - in stock and incl. shipping. Generally, the price (amongst those that can actually ship one) will be within $125-$150, of each other, depending if shipping is included, etc. :det:

If it was me, I'd just buy it at $1600, assuming it's a NIB, etc. Price may go up some.

Generally, BAD decisions make very good stories. So post em..

Call Keith at K & M Guns in OK. He's great to deal with and I think he has the best prices as well. I did have to wait about 3 weeks to get the scope in but it is a GREAT scope and well worth the money. 1 (918)408-3500
