M107A1 Style Cheek Rest???

Postby vette447 » Thu 09 Sep, 2010 8:47 pm

I have asked here a few times about ordering the M107A1 cheek rest to install it on my M82A1 but Barrett has stated that they are not (and/or will not be) available. I was wondering if anyone has the expertise or connections with a plastics person or compnay to make one? Maybe Lin Schryver? He has made some great upgrade products for the M82A1 so far.

Does anyone have the ability to make a great cheek rest similar to the one on the M107A1? I would be first in line to purchase one if they were made well. Anyone else???

Or.... Barrett: Would you please make the parts available for those of us that would like to install them on our M82A1's or M107's???

Thanks!! :cheer:

Iam thinking that will be only on the new M107A1 when it comes out. I have the regular web gear check pad , and muzzel cover on my 82-A1 and like it a lot and the check pad works well , and only costs about 20 bucks with the S.H

It is currently only on the new M107A1. However, I would like to have something like it on my M82A1 which is the purpose of my post above. I too have the web gear but I would like to have something more permanent that I did not have to take off to disassmble my gun and it would not move once installed. The muzzle cover is great though.

Hey Guys,
It looks like a pretty simple design. Shape a piece of Kydex with a some careful cutting and sanding, heat in a toaster over and wearing gloves, lay it down over your receiver so that it takes the shape. Let it cool and finish up with drilling and tapping a couple small holes and secure with some lock tighted allen head screws.
Thick Kydex Sheet
Respectfully,
Harry

I picked up a stick on cheek rest from Brownells about 5 years ago. Works well.

Harry and Fire4Effect,

Those are the two most prominant options I have been toying with if there is never going to be any way to get a Barrett made cheekrest (other than the webbing kit model).

F4E, how well has the stock-onn model held up in the 5 years? Is there any peeling, etc? How thick did you get? If I remember right, they came in a few diffent thicknesses. I would think I would want mine as thin as possible, just to provide a small, slightly softer layer between me and the metal receiver.

Harry, please keep us posted if you try it.

Thanks Again,
Vette

Where has Barrett indicated the M107A1 (or affiliated components) will not be available? The only posting I have seen from anybody on the Barrett staff is that the current civilian M107 production run has ended. That is not the same thing as saying that the M107A1 or subsequent derivatives will not be made available for public purchase.

It has been posted either on this forum or the previous incarnation of it that the M107A1 is surrently not available for sale and that there was no plans to offer parts such as this for upgrade. That may change in the future and I sure hope it does but that was the last thing I had heard.

Like I said, I hope that it may be available in the future but it is not available now.

The Barrett rep on the thread only stated the M107A1 was not in production - no where in the thread does he or any other official Barrett representative state that the M107A1 and its affiliated components will not be made available to the public once production run starts...

OK Spaceaholic. My original post stated that it is not (and/or will not be) available. This is because it is not available as per Barrett officially in the thread I referenced above. I put "and/or will not be" in parentheses because I do not know if that parts kit will ever be available. I am not saying that Barrett will absolutely never allow these parts to be available. As I have stated more than once in this thread, I really hope that they do offer a cheek rest kit some time in the future. One of the things I really like about Barrett is that they are one of the more Customer Service oriented firearms companies. This is partially why started this thread; to remind Barrett that the interest is out there from shooters like me (and hopefully others) for this parts upgrade.

Since it is not currently available (again, as per the last official word from Barrett listed in the other thread), I was also asking about other alternatives and possibilities. I very much appreciate those that have shared a few. Hopefully the M107A1 kit will be available some day, but in the meantime one of these other options may work well also.

Hopefully this is more clear. I didn't start the thread to "dig" at Barrett, only to keep a discussion going in hopes that this kit could be made available in the future. I love my Barretts and have had very good experience with the company. Thanks! :cheer:

Vette,

I used 1/8" Brownells Cheek-eez. I trimmed it to conform to the upper receiver. So far no pealing. It was a worthwhile modification.
