Vigilance is always warranted when it comes to quashing any legislation which threatens to erode our first amendment rights; however with
the House firmly in Republican Control and many Democratic Senators from "moderate" states up for reelection in 2012, I just dont see how
Obama gets there from here.

It's all posturing. The only measures that will have a chance at passsing are a high-capacity magazine ban (with grandfather clause) and a ban on firearms near elected officials (which would be ruled unconstitutional in a few years anyway). I don't think either of them has a particularly good chance at passing, but I will admit to buying a few more AR magazines just in case. And the potential for a high-cap ban makes me want to accelerate plans to pick up an XDm-45 too ...

The "key" term is EXECUTIVE Order. Obama will use that route to try to take away OUR 2nd Amendment RIGHTS. He has already made CONGRESS, Irrelevant. They are empowered by the CONSTITUTION to write and enact laws. Look what Obama has done to go around CONGRESS (AND they've NOT complained). This gun-grab will be no different.

I do feel that there will be continued efforts at gun control, but feel it would be almost impossible to eviscerate the 2nd Amendment. However, with the recent Supreme Court decision on taxing powers by Congress, I can envision a corrupt Congress, and God knows we've had a few of those from time to time, that could put an exorbitant tax on weapons and ammo. This is why I purchased my MRAD now and will be gradually adding to my ammo collection. The best way to protect or precious rights is to mobilize as many people as possible to participate in all elections, whether local, statewide or national. Of course vote for whomever you want, but that is the only way the will of the PEOPLE, who are supposed to be in charge, can be heard. November is shaping up to be interesting.

I think you have it about right.

Obama's Czar Cass R Sunstien wrote a book called "Nudge" where he lays out we're all basically a bunch of Homer Simpson types that are too dumb to make the right decisions for ourselves, so we have to be lead to the correct choices (hence the elephant on the cover of the book nudging the smaller one forward).

How this is done in his Nudge theory is if you can't remove a person's choice to do or purchase something, you just make that choice much harder to direct them to do what you want. Sometimes that is through regulations, licensing, taxation, environmental, etc.

Much like they've wanted ammo that expires so you can't stock up, putting lead on the EPA's list as hazardous to the environment (even though it naturally occurs in the earth), and through high taxes like they have done Tabacco, etc.

We can't let them gain an inch because as you can see even the smallest regulation, tax, etc., can get them one step closer to keeping guns and ammo out of reach of law abiding citizens.
